The
Indigos and Blues classes wrote 8 short puppet shows
as a culmination of our community study. During the
winter and spring parents came in each
week to share their vocations with us. Using this information,
teams of four students were given a short scenario drawn
from a favorite folktale.
Each scenario contained a problem like Jack being stuck
at the top of the bean stalk. The students had to figure
out which members of the community could best help them
solve the problem.
After the students decided on community helpers for
each scenario, they worked together to write a new end
to the folktale.
Next, Indigos and Blues created sock puppets to represent
their characters. They also sewed puppet costumes to
represent their professions.
Finally, each group wrote music for the plays. They
wrote preludes, motifs for each character and created
sound effects using a variety of
instruments.
